The Sturmgeschütz III Ausf F/8 was the second version of the StuG III to carry the longer 7.5cm StuK40 L/48 gun, and differed from the Ausf F in the use of the hull from the Panzer III Ausf J (also known as the 8.Serie ZW). All earlier models of the StuG had used the same form of hull as the original Ausf A.
The Panzer-Regiment “”HG” consisted of two Abteilungs with a total of 60 Panzer III’s and Panzer IV’s and an additional Abteilung of Stugs. On Sicily the Panzer-Division “HG” also had 17 Tiger I’s from the Heer’s 2./sPzAbt 504 assigned to them.
Hermann Goering division had in strength, as at 10 July 1943, 20 Stug III F/8 and G, and 9 Stuh 42.
