The Steppenwulf http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net Thu, 18 Apr 2024 09:26:34 +0000 en-GB hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=5.0.21 The Steppenwulf – Black Sea UI mod v2.0 http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/?p=4368 http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/?p=4368#comments Sun, 17 Jul 2016 23:21:21 +0000 http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/?p=4368 Here be version 2 of The Steppenwulf’s UI mod. There are significant & numerous amendments to version 1 but listed in detail as follows:-

1) Corrections made to specific weapons/UAV icons as pointed out by community members in feedback.

2) UKR forces now possess characteristic weapon butts, mag covers etc as distinct from RUS black.

3) Note that AT6 -ATGM stock icon is missing from game – BF please fix this!

In addition, note that the SA-13 SAM missile icon is missing from game – BF please fix!

On a similar note, the RUS AK47U should use the file aks-47u-black green.bmp but instead uses the UKR file which renders the wrong weapon icon. Nothing I can do about that, unless/until BF distinguish the icon by linking the right file in their code.

(I suspect the reason for the latter is because with the stock images there is no distinction necessary and this saves on memory load. Nevertheless, I hope they address this problem, if only for the benefit of players using colour icons and benefit of accuracy.)

Similar problem with the PKM file (there isn’t a RUS one at all). Solution is that applying the PKP icon file (which is RUS only) for the RUS PKM as well as the PKP will work – again BF, please,
please apply this suggested change!

Due to all these issues listed in 3), I have created the respective icons (though they are presently ‘dormant’). The idea being that once BF link them, they will work and be correct.

4) There are numerous tweaks made to most weapon and silhouette icons. Many have been remastered from scratch. M2 HMG silhouette added – previously missed that one.

5) All icons have been remounted on stock UI backgrounds. This makes the modded icons blend like stock, where they didn’t in version 1.

6) New colour Tab icons, ammo/armour icons, interrupt buttons, command buttons, game-load progress bar – all adapted (& modified) from Juju’s CM UI work.

7) Amber “Go Button” modified to red.

8) Support assets buttons all new designs.

9) New playback buttons

10) Last but not least, new “portraits”, inward-facing with sky blue backgrounds.

Altogether this is a significantly more polished mod than the first version, furthermore it incorporates some fresh ideas that I’ve developed of my own and that I thought I should take the opportunity to finally include.

Not everything I’ve modified will suit players tastes but everyone is free to swap-out what they don’t like.

I hope on the whole though that users will feel that my work enhances the UI aesthetics in some way.

Please do take the time to leave a message of thanks; without payment, the only single incentive for me to upload and share my ideas with the community is YOUR acknowledgement and appreciation!

I would like to credit the following for the Euroscape mod which forms part of this work: Donald Abrams, Gordon E. Molek, Marco Bergmann, Stagler, Mord & Paul Gulianelli.

I must credit Juju as a pioneer in UI mods for CM who exerts a general influence on my UI mod.

I would like to thank various members for their advice and kind words. I would especially like to thank all those members who otherwise have already extended their gratitude for my work.

The Steppenwulf’s UI Icon and Silhouette mod by The Steppenwulf http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/?p=2909 http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/?p=2909#comments Sat, 09 Jan 2016 06:22:08 +0000 http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/?p=2909 Here FINALLY for download are my modified weapon & vehicle icons for CMBS.

Also included but foldered separately and labelled are some previously made vehicle silhouettes. I believe these came from the Euroscape mod for CM Shockforce.

Naturally there’s little point in redoing work that’s good but I have included these images with my work for convenience – complementary as they are to the mod.

I believe credit for the Euroscape work goes to; Donald Abrams, Gordon E. Molek, Marco Bergmann, Stagler, Mord & Paul Gulianelli.

Also included are new special equipment icons, branches icons and C&C icons. Many are entirely fresh designs, I hope the community enjoy them!

(Note that you’ll need the “ukraine” mod tag added to maps to use the ukranian HQ silhouette – I’ve added this mod tag as a .txt file ready for such use)

I should mention that Kieme has also produced some really excellent UI icons & silhouettes & I encourage players to check that work out (from the BF forums) and perhaps mix and match to get the best of both sets. I mean why not – I would?!

I will be sure to revisit this work at some point, if not before the next module comes around, so constructive feedback regarding adjustments/amendments is welcomed.

Customised Milestones (flavour objects) kit by The Steppenwulf http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/?p=2624 http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/?p=2624#comments Mon, 19 Oct 2015 10:49:56 +0000 http://cmmodsiii.greenasjade.net/?p=2624 Make your own authentic milestone signs for maps – no more random signs!

See the screenie as an example of two I made for my WIP map.

This package contains 9 files plus instructions .txt. 4 files are .MDR (model)files and when dropped in your Z mod folder will create four further milestone slots, 3,4, 5 & 6, in the editor’s flavor objects section.

Three of the other files are template texture files for the signs so that you can create some text for the locations you want to see in your map. Use some art software to add these over the blank canvas and save as “milestone 3 1”.bmp, or, “milestone 5 1”.bmp for signs that point left. For the opposite direction signs – pointing to the right -(remember to mirror your text when editing these ones) save your sign as “milestone 4 1”.bmp or “milestone 6 1”.bmp.

Two other .bmp files included are my own creations to serve as examples of the text positioning and font size. I found a straightforward Arial font works well for Normandy milestone signs but there are plenty of free fonts online to download to suit all styles.
